Our tradition is unimaginable without
Festivals and Festivals are impossible without a Torah
Scroll. Weekly - Monday and Thursday - Torah readings,
established by Ezra the Scribe and Shabbat reading that
dates back to Moshe Rabenu are as important as the readings
on Festivals - Sukkot, Rosh ha-Shanah, Shavuot, Pesach,
required by the Torah itself. Reading the Torah Scroll
at Bar Mitzvah ceremony is another exciting experience
for a young Jew who enters the adult world of joyful learning,
spiritual family and communal commitments. |
According to the Law,
a Jewish male should hear the words of Torah every three days;
the one who does not do so will not have a spiritual support
for his life process and may jeopardize his endeavors. Therefore
besides Torah reading on Shabbat, it was decided that two
market days, when the Jews from all over ancient Israel came
to Jerusalem should be the days of public Torah readings.
On those days small part of the weekly portion of Torah is
read and three persons - a Kohen, a Levy and an Israel are
called to make the blessing and read from the text.
